United States of America (Press Release) April 2, 2008 --
Robinson, TX, April 1, 2008: Theoretical Entertainment is proud to announce the selection of two of its films to the ReelHeART International Film Festival in Toronto. One of the selected films a feature-length independent film titled The Proper Care & Feeding of an American Messiah, will screen on Tuesday, June 17th, at 10pm in Toronto, at the Innis Town Hall, Innis College, University of Toronto. The other selected film, a short documentary titled Clean Freak, will screen earlier that same evening and at the same location.
A comedy co-written and directed by Chris Hansen, The Proper Care & Feeding of an American Messiah is a mock documentary about a man who believes he is a messiah -- but not THE messiah, as he constantly reminds people. It was filmed entirely on location in Waco and Bellmead, Texas and has previously been invited to screen in nearly twenty film festivals around the country, including AFI Dallas International Film Festival, the Virginia Film Festival, and the Silver Lake Film Festival in L.A. (where it won an award for Best Performances in a Feature. It has won four “Best Feature” awards, including "Best Feature Mockumentary" at Atlanta Underground Film Festival, “Best Feature” at South Padre Island Film Festival and Film Expo Texas, and Best Comedy Feature at Southern Winds Film Festival. This will mark the film’s Canadian premiere.
Clean Freak extends Hansen’s interest in the crossover between mockumentary and documentary. The short film is a comedic documentary that straddles the line between fact and fiction. In the film, Chris Hansen portrays himself -- a filmmaker who is also a neurotic clean freak. Here, he turns the camera on himself, first to see how his family sees him, then to explore the roots of his issues, and finally to seek treatment.
Hansen is proud to make his Canadian premiere with both films, and honored to be a part of ReelHeART. "It really is an honor to have both of my films invited to screen at such a great festival and one dedicated to true indie filmmakers.
The Proper Care & Feeding of an American Messiah, shot on High Definition (HD) in 2005, features great performances by a cast of accomplished actors, including Dustin Olson, Ellen Dolan, and Joseph Frost. It also features Tony Hale, of Fox TV's Arrested Development and such films as Stranger than Fiction with Will Ferrell and RV with Robin Williams.
In addition to co-writing and directing, Hansen also serves as the film's co-producer, along with co-producer and line producer Brian Elliott. Co-writer David M. Lovic also composed the original music for the film, working with B. Franklin Lyon.
Elliott and Hansen are colleagues at Baylor University, where they both teach in the Film & Digital Media division of the Communication Studies department. The film used Baylor film students in a variety of key production roles. Visit the film's official website (www.americanmessiah.com) for more information.
Clean Freak was shot on miniDV in fall 2007, in conjunction with Hansen’s Directing class at Baylor. It premiered at the Lake County Film Festival in Illinois in March 2008. Visit the official website (www.cleanfreakmovie.com) for more information and reviews.
