iSK8Coach.com Brings Social Networking to the Figure Skating World; Aims to Create The First ‘World Skating Community’
Lake Placid, NY – April 8th, 2008 – As the 2008 United States Adult Figure Skating Championships gets underway in Lake Placid, an entirely new way of enjoying figure skating will be introduced to the skaters, fans and coaches who will travel to the Adirondacks to compete at the site of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympic Games. However, this new vehicle for skating won’t include skates, ice, or bitter cold; in fact, you can enjoy it right from your living room.
Starting April 8th, the new method for figure skating will be online at iSK8Coach.com, the brand new social networking site entirely dedicated to the sport of figure skating. It will feature individual profiles, blogs, forums, pictures, videos, the latest skating news, and the ability to find a coach, skating club, synchronized skating team or learn-to-skate program by simply entering your zip code. Think ‘Facebook,’ with ice skates.
The website was founded by Chris Bartlett of New Haven and Peter Kozodoy of Glastonbury who were both former skaters and now coach at the Champions Skating Center in Cromwell, CT. Bartlett also owns and operates Skaters Landing, the largest figure skating retailer in the country, while Kozodoy serves as the company manager. “Being in the shop,” explained Bartlett, “we always get questions about where kids should go to skate, and who they should take lessons from…we finally decided that all of these people need a place to go to get the information they need on how to get involved in figure skating.”
Overall, the website has taken six months of development, working with a lead programmer in New Haven and an entire team in London. Kozodoy commented, “it has been a slower process than we would like, but we’re taking every precaution to make sure that the site works smoothly, efficiently, and safely for all of the kids and parents who will be using iSK8Coach.com to network with their friends, coaches, and other skating groups.” The two founders have been working with US Figure Skating and the Professional Skaters Association to try to put safety protocols in place that would make iSK8Coach a safe and reliable place to get information.
iSK8Coach.com is just one of the vehicles that Bartlett and Kozodoy are using to bring figure skating back to pop-culture. “We want anyone who has even the slightest curiosity about skating to be able to easily get involved through the wealth of information that will be on the site,” Kozodoy explained. Bartlett added, “skating is such a fun activity for kids that can teach them great life lessons like discipline and goal-setting…we want them to fall in love with skating just like we have.”
With the success of social networks online right now, there is no doubt that skaters, parents and fans alike will take iSK8Coach.com and carve their own personal community out of the depths of the internet.
