United States of America (Press Release) April 4, 2008 --
Santa Rosa – Ten years after developing the Silberg Tissue Preparation System (TPS) that is used in medical centers and doctors offices around the world, Dr. Barry Silberg M.D. F.A.C.S., is again on the move with an unprecedented medical technique.
Silberg’s device is already used to prepare soft tissue sites for plastic surgery procedures and in cardiac bypass surgery to reduce complications, eliminate leg pain from harvested veins and improve post-surgical healing. It is now being considered for distributing antibiotics to soft tissue surgical sites.
With Federal Drug Administration approved human testing currently under way at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital (under the supervision of the hospital’s Institutional Review Committee), Silberg stands again on the cutting edge of medical technology. In fact, with a technique that can potentially deliver much more needed medication directly to an affected area, the implications are enormous. But the concept is so new, it requires a re-thinking of some deeply entrenched medical attitudes.
“It’s a whole new way of delivering medication into tissue. It will hopefully mean lower cost and being able to prevent and treat infectious disease in a whole new, easier, more direct, less invasive manner." Silberg said.
Silberg recently established the nonprofit Santa Rosa Antibiotics Effectiveness Project to advance the science of antibiotic medicine and educate the public about the latest research in antibiotic effectiveness, which will benefit individuals and the community.
Dr. Silberg has been in practice in Santa Rosa, California since 1979. A specialist in cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery, he is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and has lectured as an invited teacher in the USA, Brazil, Japan, France, Thailand, Korea, Mexico and, most recently, operated on children with cleft lips and palates in the Philippines as a member of Rotaplast.
