Palestinian Territory, Occupied (Press Release) April 6, 2008 --
A number of prominent businesspeople and Jordanian investors attended the reception, which highlighted the objectives and vision of PIC-Palestine. During the dinner, Minister Hassouneh and Dr. Hasan Abu-Libdeh, the CEO of PIC-Palestine, explained that as the first investment conference of this magnitude to be held in Palestine, the conference will serve as a platform to showcase promising investment opportunities in a variety of economic sectors in Palestine.
Minister Hassouneh said: “The conference was inspired by the international donor community's December 2007 commitment of $7.7 billion to a comprehensive three-year development and rehabilitation plan for Palestine, and aims to demonstrate high-level political commitment from the Palestinian Authority to the investment-led growth of the Palestinian economy.
“The conference will educate and inform potential investors regarding the local investment climate and challenge popular perceptions about doing business in Palestine,” the Minister of National Economy added.
The Jordanian Minister was supportive of concerted efforts on the part of the Palestinian public and private sectors, as well as Arab investors, to help boost the Palestinian economy through investment, saying “Investment is crucial for providing an impetus to overcome obstacles to development and growth and to create momentum for the removal of the barriers that hinder partnership between local and international businesses.”
Minister Hassouneh stressed the message ‘you can do business in Palestine,’ referring to the conference’s goal of informing businesspeople from around the globe that the doors to investment in Palestine are open.
Approximately 700 Arab and international businesspeople have already been invited to attend PIC-Palestine. The conference promises to attract a number of influential people.
PIC- Palestine 2008 is proud to partner with Palestine Investment Fund (PIF), Palestine Bank, Paltel Group, PADICO, Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC), Islamic Bank for Development, British Department for International Development, Booz Allen Hamilton, Arab Bank, Arab Islamic Bank, The Arab Palestinian Investment Company (APIC), CISCO Systems and Intel Company.
