Gene Geter, a photographer and author, became involved in Korean culture after photographing many Korean models in New York and later, started watching Korean movies to better his speaking techniques. It was when he watched "Old Boy" that made him interested in seeing more Korean films. He feels, the cinematography and acting can't be beat!
Geter has volunteered for New York Korean Film Festival for two years and has talked with The Korea Society already about working this year and playing a bigger role in promoting the upcoming event. Street teams and internet teams will be assembled by June. New York Korean Film Festival will have parties, dinners, contests, free movie screenings and possibly, a fashion show.
And get this, Geter also knows a Korean actress named Ryeo-won Jeong. They became friends when Jeong visited New York almost two years ago. Hopefully, he says, if Ryeo-won is free this August, she can come to the festival and say what's up. Geter is also working on getting singer Amerie to help promote the event, expressing in her own way why Korean movies are great.
