United States of America (Press Release) April 10, 2008 --
What began as a solidarity walk for Israel in a small American community back in 2002 is day by day, fast blossoming into one the most colorful, energetic, and enthusiastic global Jewish events since the birth of the State of Israel in 1948.
It’s called “CELEBRATE 60! WALK THE LAND” and is inspiring entire communities – from Helsinki, Finland to Los Angeles, California to Gold Coast, Australia to be active celebrants in Israel’s exciting 60th year commemoration.
THE AFIKIM FOUNDATION, in solidarity with Keren Kayemeth LeIsrael, has developed a creative, turn-key program to facilitate community-wide Walks in May/June 2008 for supporters of Israel of all ages and affiliations. Fifteen exquisite vinyl murals depicting Israeli cities and landmarks are provided to each location to line the routes for participants to figuratively “Walk the Land”.
Official T-shirts, water bottles and sling backpacks with the Celebrate 60! Walk the Land logo in various languages will unify walkers worldwide. An online Resource /Planning Guide allow cities to customize pre-designed letters, templates and artwork to create their own unique event with minimal time and effort.
The response to “CELEBRATE 60! WALK THE LAND” has been a remarkable one. The site's list of participating communities, now numbering 100, bespeaks togetherness for the Jewish people which are captured beautifully in the emotionally touching viral video that can be accessed at the project’s portal site www.walktheland.org. The sophisticated web site unites cities around the globe who will now be celebrating as a single virtual community.
Free online registration qualifies walkers to a Sweepstakes for 10 free round-trip tickets to Israel, and another free trip will be awarded for the best amateur short video about Israel.
Aside from walkers on a local level experiencing an extra sense of pride in being part of a global celebration, Walk the Land’s unified network of scores of Jewish communities worldwide is a poignant display of the extensive and fervent support that exists for the land of Israel.
