United States of America (Press Release) April 11, 2008 --
Chances are, if you are reading this blog, you are either unhappy with your current job and/or lack thereof,or you have always wanted to open your own business, but you just didn't know where to start. Perhaps you just want to earn some extra money part-time to save for a vacation or new car. You just didn't know what skills you have that people would actually pay for. Well, I know of one that everyone already has, or can learn quickly.
Using a Digital Camera to take photos.
All you need to make a good living from this is a digital camera, some reliability(you do what you say you will, when you say you're going to do it),and a little bit of work. Anyone can have the pride of controlling their own destiny and doing a great job at it. Here is what you need to do to get started...
1. Have a Digital Camera with at least 5 Mega-Pixels.
This camera should be easy to handle, yet durable. A zoom is a nice feature to have, if you want to invest in one, but not mandatory. A flash will be needed on cloudy days or indoors. This camera also needs to be able to upload to a computer.
2. Develop a Prospecting Strategy
Now don't freak out when I say prospect. This is easy to do and there are a ton of potential clients out there. For example, Realty Trac stated in an article on February 28th of this year that foreclosures are up 57% and bank repo's are up 90% year over year. What does that mean for you? Insurance companies and banks need pictures and lot sizes of all properties for appraisals. Also, internet auctions and classified ad sites are booming. That is a lot of car dealerships and advertising companies that need pictures taken. Make a list of all companies that you can think of. The best part is, there are companies all over the nation that need your services...and it is all done via telephone, internet(uploading and sending the pictures) and through the mail.
3. Contact the companies Human Rescources or Purchasing Department and ask them what you would need to do to become a freelance photographer for them. Most companies already have a program in place and you would just need to fill in the paperwork. Keep in mind when you call...you are a professional and they NEED your services. Think about it. They need a picture of a house in foreclosure. Would they rather have an employee on staff at $30,000 a year, pay benefits, gasoline, bonuses etc.? Or would they rather pay you $25-$75? See what I mean?
4. ACT!
When the companies begin calling, take the jobs! No matter what, take any job you can at first. Once they see you do a good job and turn in the photo's quickly, the work will begin pouring in. Then you can be picky. For now...concentrate on getting 4-5 appointments a day. In order to do that, you must map out your route daily and make the best use of your time. It's worth it. Believe me. If you do 5 a day at $50 each. That is $250 a day or $1,000 for a 5 day work week. Make sure you put away enough to pay taxes. Keep in mind, you can do as many appointments as you can handle. If you can do 10 a day...that is $500 a day. Why not do that and work 4 days this week and take a long weekend?
5. Send a thank you card after the first job for each new company that begins using you. Be sure you get the name of the person that contacted you in the first place. Do not send this thank you as an e-mail! Everyone likes to be appreciated. Take the time to send a hand-written thank you and watch the results.
If you follow these steps and just GET STARTED, you could be working within a week or two. The most important thing is to set a goal of what you want to achieve and then break it into small chunks. For example..."I am going to mail 15 intro letters today."
