National Dance Week Celebrations throughout the Ohio Valley
Tuesday April 15, 2008 (Wheeling, WV) -Celebrating a personal three decades of dance herself, WV State Director for National Dance Week and professional dancer Anna Harsh has released some of the special free events that will be going on throughout WV and locally in in honor of National Dance Week. Harsh states, “I decided to expand the week a little and give more back to the community. I will be touring throughout WV and Ohio teaching and offering great free events that families can enjoy not just during dance week, but throughout the month of April and beginning of May.” National Dance Week will be celebrated throughout the US during April 25-May 4
Anna Harsh and ballroom partner Emory Oldaker will be performing a Samba routine for the Miss WV scholarship Pageant fundraiser on Sat April 19 at the WVU Mountainlair Ballroom in Morgantown WV as well as judge the Dancing with the community stars.
Wheeling Park High School students will enjoy a variety of free dance workshops including Argentine Tango and Modern dance sponsored by Allegro Dance Company with instructor Anna Harsh. Workshops will be held on April 21 & 28.
Anna holds a Bachelors of Arts degree in Dance from Slippery Rock University and a Masters degree from West Virginia University. She is a Clarksburg native where she was a representative for national dance week and in 2003 moved to Wheeling and became the WV State Director for National Dance Week. Harsh states, “I am so pleased to be a part of this huge organization and bring some great events not only locally but also throughout the state. National Dance Week has become greatly recognized throughout the country. I have seen public officials locally and state wide take part in several events who are proud to share stories of their dancing experiences as well as present proclamations declaring a week of dance. What a great way to enjoy one another – dance!”
Tuesday April 29th the dance tour continues with Dance students at Mount De Chantal who will engage in a choreography workshop session learning how dances are created and formed.
On Wed April 30 Anna will visit Woodsdale Elementary School’s physical education classes which will learn some basic dance skills and exercises that are important to stay fit.
La Danse Technique in St Clairsville Ohio will open their doors for “bring a friend to dance week.” Anyone can come in to observe or sample a free dance or fitness class during April 28-30. Classes range from classical ballet to Pilates to ballroom dance. Adults and children are invited to enjoy.
Ohio County Library will also offer story time for children and dance movies beginning in May for all ages. Contact the library for times 304-232-0244.
