United States of America (Press Release) April 15, 2008 --
In a recent discussion, Steven Jennings revealed why he sent a harsh letter about the threat of racism to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. "I was bitter. I felt powerless and very small for a period of my life, after personally experiencing discrimination in Southwest Florida. "
Jennings continued, "After reading over my letter hundreds of times, I began to disagree with myself. I felt the anger and bitterness resonate from my words. I want to apologize to any people who may have felt my words were not well presented. I may have had a couple facts screwed up too, but that was the reality of my letter. It was not carefully researched or professionally put together, it was a letter straight from the heart of an African-American Black man, directly to the presidential candidates. But I have to say, that after watching the way the media has been downplaying racism, I feel it needs to addressed more than ever. Not in a comment, a speech or a controlled atmosphere like television, but in an unrestricted setting, or a forum where people of all races and take part, and so we can get to the bottom of this issue. I feel the media does not understand how the average African-American feel."
The letter, which we have linked to this release, was sent to Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton's addresses, and to the Associated Press, but it was never answered by either candidate.
