United Kingdom of Great Britain & N. Ireland (Press Release) April 16, 2008 --
A software developer from Irvine has created a masterpiece with a difference. After developing his own computer software, 45-year-old Kenny McMillan has re-produced a Michelangelo classic. But there is a lot more hidden within this picture than meets the eye.
Behind this picture lies a story - a very long story in fact. A closer look at this version of Michelangelo's masterpiece reveals the words of the Bible - all 3.5 million of them It is the creation of Kenny McMillan, a web designer from Irvine. Kenny developed the software, which allowed him to produce this clever technique called motillism.
He said: "The process is fairly complicated - the orginal image is scanned and the text is painted in whatever colour the paint needs to be painted in."
That process tricks the brain into seeing a collection of words and pictures. He explained: "Most of each print is white space and the brain fills in those bits it can't see, so it is a bit of trickery."
"I had a brainwave that I had...I was looking a this computer screen and I thought I saw a face, but I didn't it was just a spreadsheet with numbers, but it got me thinking...oh that would be a good idea if...so I started playing with the idea and developing the software and it worked."
This motillism, along with other examples, can be viewed in detail at www.motillism.com
