Community program used to show importance of shredding personal documentation.
For_Immediate_Release:

United States of America (Press Release) April 17, 2008 -- WINCHESTER, Virginia, April 15th, 2008—American Background Information Services Inc. (ABI), a leading provider of comprehensive, innovative employment screening and verification services that enhance the safety, security, and efficiency of the workplace has announced today their 2nd Annual Community Shred It Day, as part of their ongoing community involvement program. ABI is a subsidiary of Intersections Inc., a leading global provider of consumer and corporate identity risk management services.
With one in every eight American adults being a victim of identity theft, it is an issue on many minds. Theft and fraudulent takeover or opening of new accounts using another person’s identifying information is one of the fastest growing crimes in North America, effecting 10 million Americans in the last year alone.
Shredding documents with personal information is an important way individuals can help protect their identities, and also a great recycling option; for every ton of paper we can save 682 gallons of oil, 7,000 gallons of water and 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space!

ABI is inviting individuals to join them at their 2nd Annual Community Shred It Day which will take place between 10:00am – 2:00pm on April 19, 2008, at American Background's office (629 Cedar Creek Grade, Winchester, VA 22601).

Individuals may bring up to five boxes of personal items, which can include all types of paper (including staples and paper clips), credit cards, and CDs.  In addition, attendees will have the opportunity to receive valuable information on how to prevent identity theft, as well as information on what to do if they become a victim.
