MADISONVILLE, Tenn.(Free-Press-Release.com) April 18, 2008 -- Hiwassee College, a private, two-year, residential college with an enrollment of approximately 400 students, has built its reputation on the slogan, Dedicated to Great Beginnings.
A United Methodist-related institution, Hiwassee’s long-term mission is providing quality, faith-based, student-centered instruction to students. The college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) to award various associate’s degrees and listed by the University Senate of the United Methodist Church. Therefore, the college places special emphasis on the personalized, proactive environment students experience during their first two years of college. Throughout this critical time, Hiwassee believes -- with the right guidance, resources and drive -- a student can truly make a great beginning.
At Hiwassee, new beginnings apply to more than just the students. The college is initiating its own new beginning in the fall of 2008. In the month of August, Hiwassee will launch its first online courses and two online degree programs. Online programs in criminal justice and business entrepreneurship are scheduled to begin in the upcoming fall term. Each program is designed for students to earn an Associate of Applied Science degree upon completion. Online students will complete their general education requirements online and will have access to more specialized online courses in their respective fields.
Hiwassee has partnered with The Learning House, Inc., a total online education solutions provider. Learning House will assist in developing and launching of Hiwassee’s virtual campus. Learning House will provide a customized package of online services, including a learning management system for eCourses, Tier 1 hosting and Help Desk services, assistance in developing courses, multimedia services, eMarketing services, training, consultation and evaluation services.
The new virtual campus will enable Hiwassee to expand the availability of educational opportunities to a wider, more diverse population. The primary target audience is off-campus clientele. Dedicated to academic excellence, Hiwassee is confident that distance learning can truly fulfill the needs of an off-campus student, especially with the support of a knowledgeable faculty base. The faculty at Hiwassee, who have access to advanced online training, will apply state-of-the-art teaching and technological methods of instruction to address the learning styles of any on- or off-campus student.
With a strong legacy as a faith-based institution, Hiwassee will apply the same religious tradition and personal accountability to each and every online course. Upon graduation, students will have a broader perspective of education than the required knowledge and skills of their chosen occupation. While graduates are expected to have an abundance of employment opportunities open to them, Hiwassee hopes that students’ time at the college will have transformed them into life-long learners who are able to adapt to an ever-changing society.
