EVE SUPPORT ANNOUNCED FOR AUSTRALIA

(Free-Press-Release.com) April 23, 2008 -- The support for Grammy Award winning hip-hop artist, Eve was announced today. Despite having appeared with artists such as Gwen Stefani, the rap star has chosen a relatively unknown artist to support her on her first ever Australian tour.

Madeleine Wood who is the featured act on the support bill (Cdubb featuring Madeleine Wood and CC Martini) is stepping into the limelight despite having only ever performed in her local scene.

A musical rebel, she came from an opera and classical family and is set to emerge as one of the rising young stars of hip-hop. Having trod the boards around the Melbourne hip-hop scene, she admits it is a big jump from local gigs to a major support for an act as big as Eve.

“I’ve been told there’ll be 7000 capacity for some of these concerts compared to hmm... my last gig for a graduation party that was about 20 people,” laughs Wood. “The most people we’ve had through the door before was 150. Going from that to even 500 would be awesome let alone 7000. For me performing is the most rewarding thing in the world even if I’m just performing to 20 people – if those people are totally engaged then I’ve achieved my goal. So I guess that’s why I’m not nervous at all - I just can’t wait to get on stage, get into it and do my thing.”

Although she’s stepping up in terms of size when it comes to her audience, Wood has always had her sights set high when it comes to her music. Despite this she happily admits to having emerged from humble beginnings.

“I used to busk in the street when I was really young. My friend and I choroegoraphed Spice Girl’s routines, got a busking licence and danced in the streets of Box Hill. I had great fun even though there were junkies and drunks everywhere yelling ‘take your cloths off’. To be honest, I didn’t even really notice that was going on,” laughs Wood. “I just thought they were watching and enjoying it.”

Like the rap artist she is supporting, there is more to this up and coming blonde hip hop-pop artist than first meets the eye. While she can strut herself with the best of them, there’s a level of musicality supporting her vocal and dancing abilities that sets her apart from your average hip hop artist.

“I played the drums for four years and the flute for nine years that’s where I got my pitching, melodies, beat and rhythm. On my single, Second chances I wrote all the parts for the track – it’s the best thing hearing the violins and the bass line and the lyrics and being able to say I wrote those – it’s fantastic.”

Wood admits that having a musical background has been helpful, not only for composition but also preparing her for the demands of being a performer.

“I think it helps that all my family are musicians - my dad is a classical guitarist he practises about seven hours a day. He’s also a kinesiologist and he’s amazingly insightful about the body. It’s actually really good performing-wise as he teaches me how to channel confidence and nerves through breathing exercises and touching certain trigger points on my body. He’s really helped me out with understanding how much power the body and the mind really has when it comes to performance and everyday life.”

Madeleine is currently working in the studio with several of Australia’s finest producers on her EP ‘With Conviction’, which is to be released in early 2008. Her single, ‘Second Chances’ is out now.
