Miami, Fl- Miami based stay at home mom combines Motherhood, entrepreneurship and fashion, all while taking care of her girls
Since having kids the number one priority for local environmentalist, Maria Fer Florido, has been taking care of her girls. But being a new mom, with a background on environmental studies and a thirst for fashion design made it hard for her to stay home without developing her ideas.
Trying always to share her sense of style and love for the environment, Florido got tired of looking for the perfect Mommy and me outfits, which should combine, style, comfort, and eco-friendliness. So she decided to design her own. When she wore her first designs she was blown away by the response she got, people would ask her where she got them and how could they get them. “Finding cute and trendy mommy and me outfits is hard. Most of what was available on the market was not age appropriate for the mother or the daughter. Mommy and me clothing had no sense of style, or trend. And most importantly there was nothing eco-friendly” says Florido.
After planning and designing her new line, she finally opened her online boutique. MamaOm www.mamaom.com, a mommy and me boutique with a conscience. The boutique opened its cyber doors with the launch of their mommy and me designer bikini collection, which she describes as “trendy and matchy, something you or your little girl would wear even if it wasn’t mommy and me”. And that is her main idea, a clothing line that is nice enough to be worn even if it wasn’t a mommy and me collection. Her summer line also includes handcrafted handbags, beach cover-ups, and designer crochet accessories.
As she watches her two little girls play while working on her home-based office, she is preparing her Organic Cotton clothing line for Fall 2008. Which promises to be trendy, matchy and green, mixing colors, and styles to conquer all trendy women and little girls around.
Starting this business has been really rewarding for Maria. She can use her creativity, express her passion for the environment, and cook dinner with her girls.
“I personally believe that being home with my girls is my number one priority, but at the same time I want to develop a business they could rely on in the future, while being environmentally conscious. “If a I want a good future for them, I need to help take care of the earth” says Florido.
