Mark Ecko's Chief Editor for Complex Magazine Displays Racial Hatred for Urban Women in Latest Blog
Competition turns sour as Mark Ecko's Chief Editor for Complex Magazine allows a terrible blog that downplays the Urban women they sell their product to. Will Ecko stand for this? If so, maybe Ecko R
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) April 26, 2008 --
Mark Ecko, the owner of many multi-million dollar enterprises such as Ecko clothing, G-Unit clothing, and Complex magazine has a problem. The multi-millionaire may lose a large sum of money because of one his Magazine Editor's latest blogs. If not, the duo of Ecko and Complex magazine will be openly showing their distaste for Urban women of color.
"I don't get why they even put our photos on their site. I'm hoping we can get a proper legal counseling and recover potential damages for the disgusting message and usage of our images without asking. I feel they tried to take something positive from the staff and team of young ladies I work with and I'm sure anyone can see this after reading," says the Creative Director for Kicks and Chicks, Roderick Rainey.
Kicks and Chicks, an up and coming publishing company that's worked with aspiring models from the across the east coast, was the target of a racial hatred blog posted by Ecko's Complex magazine.
In 1 paragraph which the Editor attempted to delete in guilt, a racial divide was made clear. This Complex editor made it known Ecko, nor Complex magazine will work with an 'around the way' girl. The editor wrote about KicksAndChicks.com, as if it were negative the project works with females from all walks of life.
In the actual blog Complex Magazine's editor wrote "[kicksandchicks.com] which features photos of aspiring models (emphasis on aspiring) holding general release sneakers while making constipated facial expressions," which basically was an attempt to degrade the spirits of these young Black, Latin, and White ladies who have already made above average monetary sums off their image via Kicks and Chicks.
The editor continued ranting "Check the stable of around-the-way beauties after the jump" in the short blog, trying to down play the role of Urban women in the modeling industry. In reading the article you can see Complex Magazine's editor has a feel that urban women are incapable of being successful in music or fashion. Oddly enough, this comes from a magazine that's making money from the street wear and sneakers crowd they are putting down.
"It's terrible that they think there's a problem with working with models from Around the Way. I love respectable around the way girls like LL Cool J. We are successful and I think they recognize everything showing chicks with kicks, is thought of as something copy-catting what we do, which it is. Kicks and Chicks' models are sparking successful careers and we are finding more success by the week. I'm not worried about it, just want our first test images from 2005/2006 taken of their site," said the Kicks and Chicks Creative Director.
Complex stole images from the KicksAndChicks.com site that are mainly from Kicks and Chicks test shoots in 2006, when the founder was just toying with the theme and using a lower end camera. It was Complex's attempt to try and show the worst of Kicks and Chicks, but a failure because people visiting the site, would see the latest work at first view.
"We'll keep doing what we're doing. Thanks for the publicity is all I can say. I think we got a few calendar sales from their blog. We're happy with our growth. Clothing brands are getting buyers from our ladies modeling their street wear and G-Force sneakers, we're going to show the world their potential. As for models individually, some of our models are touring the world right now with major companies such as Playboy and Maxim. One has done a nationally televised commercial for a BET dating show. A couple of our core models, Emily Garcia, Foxy Moxie, Angie Marino, and Janelle Stein, have appeared in music videos from rapper Cam'ron to Fabolous. God bless their magazine and I hope Mark Ecko puts his foot down and shows his editor these types of writings are not acceptable. If he does not, then we see where he stands on this issue," said Rainey.
KicksAndChicks.com is an authentic sneaker and street wear site. Kicks and Chicks has a focus on developing the latest in Nike Myspace layouts and myspace graphics, but also maintains a sneaker store and the latest sneaker hype details. Established in 2005, the project has seen growing success, recently releasing the Kicks and Chicks Dawn Edition Calendar.
