"STORM THE BEACHES FOR PEACE” ON THE 64th ANNIVERSARY OF D-DAY
Public Invited to Join Hands in Prayer on the Beaches of Santa Monica and Across the Nation
To Honor the Courage of Fallen Veterans and Encourage Peace
Storm the Beaches for Peace is a communal gathering scheduled for June 6, 2008 at the end of Ocean Park Boulevard in Santa Monica at 12 o’clock noon PST.
April 30, 2008 – Just like her father who was among the first wave of Paratroopers to storm the Beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944, Tori Hartman wants to storm the beaches, too, in a worldwide movement to honor the courage of American soldiers and promote peace. Tori Hartman, creator of this initiative, will hold the space for peace by inviting everyone to unite on the beaches of the Santa Monica shore and step into silence for 10 minutes of prayer to honor the legacy and courage of D-Day vets and all American soldiers, both current and fallen alike, and to promote the course of peace.
Hartman is the daughter of Sgt. Elek Hartman, a WWII D-day Paratrooper who risked his young life to liberate the allies from the Nazi regime. “My father was an ordinary man, swept up in extraordinary circumstances. We need to honor the courage of those in service to our country and remember that freedom is not free. This is about courage. This is about pride. This is about being American and reclaiming our right to stand united as a nation.” Hartman believes that the awareness of our entire country will shift towards peace by simply joining hands in silence from the sands of Santa Monica to the Jersey shore. “We have an opportunity to be a part of something incredible – changing the consciousness of society at large and promoting the possibility of a world filled with peace,” Hartman says. “I encourage everyone to participate, on any beach across the country.”
Others are mobilizing around this cause with remarkable velocity. In less than one week, volunteers cropped up in droves: a website was built, retired paratroopers started coordinating volunteers, and supporters are creating and maintaining viral campaigns through the use of Face book and MySpace. A video featuring Tori Hartman will soon be appearing on YouTube.
“Regardless of why our soldiers get sent off to war,” Hartman says, “their ultimate mission is freedom and peace for their fellow Americans.
