Hemingway said, “Write what you know.”
How can I, the author, write about the characters in my books that have stared death in the face unless I have not done so myself? How do I internalize fear and the possibility of death as my characters have done in gun duels, battles, and other life threatening events?
The second time I went skydiving my first parachute did not open and nearly collapse my second and only parachute. On my third jump, when I jumped out of the airplane with my book, fear was in my head, but I got through it and jumped 10,000 ft at 150mph to the ground.
When I walked around NYC in my Speedo, fear has been in my head, but I got through it and have run races through Central Park, climbed to the top of the Empire State Building, stood outside the NYPL and marched down to City Hall with my book in my trusty Speedo.
I was on the Jason Ellis Show on Sirius Satellite, Faction 28, Thursday, April 24th at 6pm and Jason Ellis professed that I would not last a round with him in the ring. At the shape I am in now, this is probably true. I have never cared about how I looked or if I’m ever in great shape, all that I truly care about is the writing in my books and finding my audience for them.
I feel that everything I have been doing has pushed me to where I am today.
1. I must fight Jason Ellis and last past one round
2. I must beat Lance Armstrong in the NYC Marathon
3. I must race to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro in the kilimanjaromarathon.com, with a copy in my book in hand with my trusty Speedo.
4. I must raise money for foster care, preferably catholiccharitiestrenton.org
5. I must get my second book pickup by a literary agent and a big time publisher
How will I accomplish these events when the most money I have raised on the streets as the Naked Author has been $43 and the most I’ve made in royalties for my book has been $208.35?
I need a Corporate Sponsor from Speedo, DC Shoes, Nike, New Balance, etc., to donate at least $2,500 to charity so I can run the NYC Marathon with my book and Speedo and try to hunt down Lance Armstrong. I will also need a Corporate Sponsor to run the Mt. Kilimanjaro Marathon.
I am also trying to find an editor for my second book that can work with my $500 budget as I do not have the resources to continue to enlist the help of a pro.
I do not know if I will succeed in lasting past a round with Jason Ellis in the ring, I do not know if I can keep pace with Lance Armstrong in a Marathon, I do not know if I have the stamina to climb to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro, I do not know if I will ever land a literary agent and large publisher like Random House, Time Warner, Bloomberg, etc.
The chips are all staked against me, the chance of success is slim to none…this has been the story of my life. And I will continue documenting it on youtube.com and blogging as I prepare to train for my most challenging events ever.
Cheers,
Naked Author- Jason W. Mitchiner
