According to the U.S Fire Administration, 15,600 structure fires, 15 deaths, and 400 injuries occur every year due to clothes dryer fires. If enough heat is generated, it can cause the lint and surrounding combustible items to ignite. A fire has stared.
The Fire Department recommends that the dryer vent and dryer exhaust are cleaned every six months to a year, depending on how large a family is and how much laundry is done. Dryer vent length and the number of 90 degree bends in the vent also contributes to the frequency of it needing cleaned. A good indication that a dryer vent needs cleaned is when normal loads of laundry are taking more than 40-60 minutes to dry.
