What would you do if you have to position a particular service / product to your sales teams in net 15 minutes time..? And that too when the audience is attending back-to-back full day sessions on various other services! Does that leave them with any free mindspace to understand this particular service? Does a traditonal powerpoint presentation help in such case? Probably not!
I found myself stuck in such a situation few days back. Our company organized a sales training program. In this program, sales teams get an opportunity to dive into our various service/product offerings..Since its a large service menu, the sales teams don't really have a lot of time to look into details of everything..Since ours is a new service offering, the time slot we could get was 15 minutes...in these many minutes we had to train the sales teams on and position our service offering..
Initially we tried traditional powerpoint presentation with couple of batches of sales teams..but it didn't work..neither it could excite them about service..nor it could build a desire into sales teams to take action..we had to find a solution which could get the best attention of sales teams and drive them to take action..this is when I thought of using Role Play / Theatre...I've been having interest in acting and role play for some time and it seemed a good idea..We created a story around our service, identified the characters involved in story and wrote a script. Quickly we did some rehearsals and found this pretty interesting..
Finally the time came for doing this Role Play / Theatre..I found myself quite nervous as we were doing it first time...but we built up the courage and started the act..there were total two characters and around ten dialgoues in this..and myself and another colleague performed those roles...the sales teams really liked it..we instantly grabbed their attention..also they were quite impressed with our innovative way of positioning our service..it made a lasting impression on them and they vowed to take our service offering to market...we repeated this act with other sales team bacthes and got similar extraordinary and amazing response...this is a great learning
for us and we plan to use theatre in business in other such occasions too!
