Gas Mileage of Vehicles Towing Teardrops Barely Affected

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) May 6, 2008 -- Located just minutes from the Pro Football Hall of Fame, Little Guy Worldwide has tapped into a niche market that, with the rising cost of gas, is beginning to develop a broader appeal. Little Guy markets and sells a line of compact camper trailers which, according to the company, have a barely noticeable impact on the fuel economy of the tow vehicle.

According to Scott Hubble, Director of Marketing for Little Guy Worldwide, "We had a customer from North Carolina stop by our headquarters in Canton, Ohio just yesterday. He and his wife, both younger retirees, were towing one of our larger models of teardrops behind a Chevy Suburban. They had stopped by to pickup a new cover for their spare tire and to show off some of the modifications that they had made to their camper. The customer stated that he was a bit skeptical when his salesperson claimed that the trailer would barely affect his gas mileage, but after 18 months of towing the 900 pound trailer behind his SUV, he said that his calculations showed a decrease in gas mileage of only two-tenths of one mile per gallon. That's a decrease of only about one to two percent. We regularly receive reports like this from customers all over the U.S. and Canada."

The savings don't stop with the gas mileage, though. Little Guy Teardrop Camper owners often receive preferential treatment when they roll into RV parks while traveling with their teardrops. Campground operators often permit teardrop owners to use spaces designated for tent camping instead of the large cement pads typically reserved for recreational vehicles. In fact, the trailers are so lightweight that they can easily be moved around by hand.

Recreational vehicle dealers, facing receding sales of motor homes and larger recreational vehicles, have begun contacting Little Guy about dealer opportunities. Joe Kicos, a former airline pilot who left the profession about five years ago to help start Little Guy, says: "When we started distributing teardrop camper trailers about five years ago, we couldn't hardly get a recreational vehicle dealer to listen to our pitch. We relied on used car dealers almost exclusively to sell our teardrops. Now it's quite a different story. Faced with shrinking sales, recreational vehicle dealers are turning to us for a product that has mass appeal, is environmentally friendly, and is very affordable. With the typical unit selling between $5,000 and $7,000, just about anyone can afford a Little Guy Teardrop Camper Trailer."

Five years ago there were very few teardrop dealers in the country, and now Little Guy Worldwide has established a worldwide network of more than 50 dealers. They have also gained big box distribution through outdoor retailer Gander Mountain. Little Guy now has distribution in about 40 Gander Mountain locations, with new locations coming online every month.

Marketing and IT consultant Matt Williams attributes the recent teardrop industry boon to several factors: high gas prices, reduced buying capacity as a result of a weak U.S. dollar, increased environmental awareness, and a best-in-class website that delivers over 1,000 unique visitors per day to the company's website. According to Williams, "Little Guy Worldwide has maintained a highly disciplined approach to marketing and advertising. We track every penny spent, and we don't spend a dime until we are convinced that it will provide a positive ROI. Of course, it doesn't hurt to have an attractive, well-built product that is the right solution at the right time."

Little Guy Teardrop Camper Trailers are regularly featured on the Price Is Right ® television game show and can be purchased through a worldwide network of dealers or at select Gander Mountain locations nationwide.
