(Free-Press-Release.com) May 7, 2008 -- Durability testing included putting the iPod Touch through a scratch test and two drops, onto tile and wood. At the end the iPod was slight scratched, but with no major problems. Video and pictures are available on the website.

Stress testing included multiple drops, jogging drops and a kicking the iPod Touch down a set of stairs. After the testing the iPod had no more than scratches and a dent. Video and pictures are available on the website.

Extreme Testing included 25 mph drop, storey high drop, throwing it in a bath, running it over, throwing it against a wall and ripping it to pieces. We cracked the screen on the 25 mph drop, which was surprising, we then completely broke the screen on the first storey drop, however the touch was making noises, we connected

it up to a computer and we could do everything as normal, however the touch screen seemed to be broken as we couldn't get anything to play. The Touch died completely when dropped in the bath, we left it to dry out in the sun and nothing came back, so we ran it over to see what damage it did, then threw it against a wall a few times and finally ripped it to pieces.

The iPod Touch survived both a 25, a 50 mph and a first storey drop in the Toughskin case. So if you're the sort of person that drops things - get the case.

The verdict:

Durability testing
Scratch test - 8.5/10. While the screen only got one tiny scratch, the shiney casing got quite a few. I guess this can only be expected - it is an iPod after all!
Drops - 9/10.

A few more scratches but nothing serious, the iPod was still working perfectly.

Stress testing
Multiple drops - 8/10. This one was a bit worrying, we flinched every time the iPod smashed against the floor, but it came off pretty well, only a small dent and a few more scratches.
Jogging drops - 9/10. Onto grass, as expected nothing happened, not even a scratch. Dropped onto tarmac it got a few scratches but came out of it pretty well. So the Touch is safe with clumsy joggers!
Kick down stairs - 9.5/10. I wanted to give it a 10, but it did get a couple of scratches, it came out of this really well though.

Extreme testing
25 mph drop - 5/10. Ok so the screen cracked, but the iPod still worked perfectly, even the part of the screen that was cracked. Might be a bit annoying watching videos and such things though.
First storey drop - 2/10. The screen totally broke on this one, the iPod itself still worked when plugged into a computer, but without a screen its not much more than a pretty hard drive.
Throwing in bath - 0/10. Well, it totally killed it and it didn't come back to life.
Running over - 2/10. The screen cracked further we think if we'd have done this before it would also have broken the screen. This rating was not included in the final score.
Thrown against wall - 4/10. No extra parts fell off, it dented in the corner but other than that we couldn't do much damage!
General toughness - 6/10. The iPod was tough to break, even though it had been smacked against a wall, we had to use a screwdriver in the end!

+ 10 because it's not advertised as being tough.
