EIGHTH ANNUAL GARDEN ART SILENT AUCTION

Etobicoke, Ontario – May 8, 2008 – Just in time for Father’s Day! 30 White Pine Muskoka chairs (four are children’s chairs) and four coffee tables have been transformed into one-of-a-kind hand painted and decorated Canadian works of art at the Eighth Annual Garden Art Silent Auction at Sherway Gardens (Hwy 427 & the QEW) in support of the Neilson Park Creative Centre. The chairs and tables are on display in Sherway Square and are available for silent bidding during regular mall hours from Sunday, June 1 until Sunday, June 15. “Create the perfect oasis for relaxation in your garden with the addition of an original hand-painted Muskoka chair or table,” states Elena Price, Senior Marketing Director, Sherway Gardens. “The chairs and tables are works of art that have been painted and decorated by talented local artists.”
WHEN: Chairs and coffee tables are available for silent bidding during regular mall hours from Sunday, June 1 until Sunday, June 15

AUCTION ITEMS: White pine Muskoka chairs and coffee tables painted and decorated by local artists to be auctioned off by silent auction. (22 adult folding chairs and four adult fixed chairs that are easy to store and transport, four kids chairs, four coffee tables and a footstool)
BIDDING: Silent bidding only. There will also be a “BUY IT NOW” feature – allowing customers to take the item off the bidding sheet by paying an asking price. ALL items will remain on display until 5pm Sunday, June 15. All successful bidders will be notified by phone on Monday, June 16. (The Bid Book is located at the entrance to the display at the south end of Sherway Square).

Neilson Park Creative Centre (NPCC) is a great example of a partnership between the community and the City. As a non-profit corporation, NPCC generates approximately 80% of it’s own operating revenue through membership fees, programming and fundraising. NPCC believes that this high profile fundraising project in conjunction with Cadillac Fairview helps provide much needed promotional support and fundraising that is essential to maintaining and developing growth for NPCC as a vibrant visual arts centre.
Neilson Park Creative Centre is a creative arts facility built in Etobicoke in 1992 and operated in co-operation with the City of Toronto by a non-profit corporation. It is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors that includes representatives from the six Resident Groups and the community. The Centre is home to the Etobicoke Handweavers and Spinners Guild, the
Etobicoke Quilters Guild, Heritage Rugcrafters of Etobicoke, Humber Valley Art Club, The Etobicoke Art Group and the Calligraphic Arts Guild of Toronto. The fully accessible facility provides a community focus for creative visual arts in west Toronto. Art programs for adults and children are offered throughout the year in the four studios, and the public are invited to visit the 2 public galleries.
