United States of America (Press Release) May 9, 2008 --
This Friday, May 9, NASCAR driver Stanton Barrett will celebrate the opening of Warner Bros. Pictures' new live-action family film "Speed Racer" in the # 30 SKI Motorsports / Stanton Barrett Motorsports SPEED RACER Chevrolet at the NASCAR Nationwide Series in Darlington. Barrett's car will sport a special paint scheme reflective of Speed Racer's legendary Mach 5.
The same day that this film opens in over 3,000 movie theatres in the USA and select countries around the world, Stanton will be driving the SPEED RACER #30 NASCAR
live in front of millions of fans at the Darlington South Carolina track and watching the race on ESPN2.
"I'm very excited about having 'Speed Racer' on my car," said Barrett. "I grew up watching the show each week with my brother David. ' I've always hoped to one day be just like Speed, and now, thanks to Warner Bros., I get to drive like a 'demon on wheels' during the NASCAR race this weekend."
The # 30 SPEED RACER car is also sponsored by Interush, a leading provider of Internet products and services in North America, Japan and Taiwan. Interush CEO Marty Matthews commented, “Our business is taking Internet innovations to Japan and Taiwan, so we are very pleased to see this terrific family film come from Japan to the USA, then back out around the world!” He went on to say “no one epitomizes Speed Racer in the USA more than Stanton Barrett – so we think this is a perfect match-up – and we wish him great success this week in the Darlington NASCAR race.”
A total of 46 cars are entered, only 43 will qualify to start when the flag drops shortly after 7 pm ET on Friday May 9th – the same date and time that millions of Speed Racer fans will be re-united with one of their favorite anime characters brought to life in the new feature film, from the Wachowski brothers and producer Joel Silver, creators of the groundbreaking "The Matrix" trilogy.
The live-action "Speed Racer" follows the adventures of the young race car driver Speed (Emile Hirsch) in his quest for glory in his thunderous Mach 5. The film stars Emile Hirsch, Christina Ricci, John Goodman, Susan Sarandon, Matthew Fox, Benno Furmann, Hiroyuki Sanada, Asian pop superstar Rain, and Richard Roundtree. Based on the classic series created by anime pioneer Tatsuo Yoshida, the live-action "Speed Racer" showcases the kind of revolutionary visual effects and cutting-edge storytelling that have become the benchmarks of the Wachowski brothers' films.
This film is rated PG. For more information, please visit: www.speedracerthemovie.com
