Honolulu, HI – Chaminade University’s Hogan Entrepreneurial Program recently gave special recognition to the program’s most outstanding students.
Faculty, mentors and some of Hawaii’s most prominent business leaders joined the Hogan Entrepreneurial Program’s sixth class of graduates and seventh class of inductees at Chaminade University’s Mystical Rose Oratory. Hawaii’s Lieutenant Governor Duke Aiona, Jr., was the keynote speaker.
“Entrepreneurship is important to our state. And we sincerely appreciate this innovative program’s efforts to prepare highly-motivated students for entrepreneurial careers in business, government and non-profit organizations,” said Aiona. “This program is helping to create a better Hawaii and I am here to let you know that your efforts do not go unnoticed,” he added.
Chaminade University’s Hogan Entrepreneurial Program is designed to prepare top students for entrepreneurial careers, community service and ethical conduct. The Hogan program is offered to juniors, seniors and graduate students of all majors, with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. Chaminade University’s Hogan Entrepreneurial Program gives students the unique opportunity to be mentored by some of Hawaii’s most successful business leaders. The Hogan Advisory Board consists of industry leaders and Presidents and CEOs from a variety of industries.
“We try to inculcate in our students, a determination to do business things that make social sense, and social things that make business sense,” said Dr. John Webster, Director of the Hogan Program.
The Outstanding Hogan Entrepreneur Award is the highest recognition awarded to the student who best embodies the entrepreneurial spirit while demonstrating academic achievement, leadership and commitment to service. This year’s Outstanding Hogan Entrepreneur is Shaunalei Awong, a senior, political science and English major from Oahu. Also recognized were the following students:
Outstanding Senior
Jonnae Taiafi, Senior, Education/Psychology major from American Samoa.
Outstanding Junior
Zain Abbas, Junior, Business Administration major from Pakistan.
Aloha Spirit Award
Candace Camacho, Senior, Communications major from Washington.
Outstanding Graduate Student
Gerome Gregory, MBA Student from Oahu.
Established in 1998 by Ed and Lynn Hogan, the Hogan Family Foundation’s mission is to promote a greater understanding of the entrepreneurial spirit through the creation and operation of education, civic-minded and humanitarian programs designed to encourage a more productive and contributory society. The foundation’s main educational focus has been the funding of programs in Entrepreneurial Studies at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington and Chaminade University of Honolulu in Hawaii.
