United States of America (Press Release) May 10, 2008 --
Mural artist Karen Hetzer is having a difficult time getting re-established in her new hometown of Philadelphia, and that is leaving her with way too much time on her hands. Disillusioned? Defeated? Broken? "Heavens no", says Karen. Instead she's decided to put that time to good use. "I love painting murals", says Karen,"I can't imagine doing anything else. I know what a difference they make in people's lives, I've witnessed it.
Karen has been painting murals for twelve years, and in that time has painted hundreds of murals for private homes and businesses. Karen recently completed four murals for the Hospital at the University of Pennsylvania. "This was some of the most rewarding work I've ever done", says Karen. One of the murals was done in a basement corridor where children are brought through from Children's Hospital next door to receive treatment at HUP. "The look on the kids faces when they pass by that huge jungle mural is priceless. No, I can't think of anything else I'd rather do", Karen says smiling.
So, how better to put her time to good use? Karen is donating her talents to local businesses and organizations in need that directly serve their community. "I really believe that the way people feel is supported by their surroundings. You want to make a positive change? I'll be there", says Karen.
