The 205 Lavinia Street Gallery in Milton De. Presents an exhibition of recent photographs by local artist Marianne Walch and of glass and jewelry by Pane in the Glass Studio. The opening reception is set for Saturday, May 31, from 7:00-10:00 pm. Walch’s one-person show “Only the Dance,” will hang in the gallery through June 30. Works include color and black-and-white images taken during her travels in the U.S., New Zealand, and Eastern Europe. Glass artists Jan Brunory, Val Dellas, and Judy Phillips of Pane in the Glass will show their unique, handcrafted dichroic Art for Walls and Wear during the reception on May 31.

Marianne Walch, of Millsboro, moved to the Delaware shore from the D.C. area six years ago. An environmental biologist and teacher of yoga and tai chi, Walch has long had a passion for art and photography. As a graduate student in microbiology, she learned to develop and print microscopy images and did graphic design for scientific publications. She also studied black and white photography and darkroom techniques at the Smithsonian Institution. Walch’s love of black and white work informs her color photography as well. Both focus on form, light and texture. Some of her favorite subjects are energetic street scenes and design found in architecture and sculpture.

The title of the show, “Only the Dance,” is taken from a passage in the T.S. Elliot poem Burnt Norton: “Except for the point, the still point, there would be no dance, and there is only the dance.” Walch says that this poem not only reflects a yogic philosophy if life, but also perfectly expresses the ability of a photograph to capture the passion of life in the stillness of a single moment.

Pane in the Glass Studio, which will show their work on the evening of May 31, is owned and operated by Jan Brunory, Val Dellas, and Judy Phillips, who have been friends for over 30 years. They retired from former careers and moved to the beach from Pittsburgh. A retirement hobby became a new passion and soon a new career. The studio does customized stained glass windows and dichroic artwork, as well as a unique line of sterling silver and dichroic glass jewelry. They were recently commissioned to design an exclusive line of jewelry and accessories for the Empire State Building’s gift shop.

Pane in the Glass Studio’s crafting process is unique. Each handcrafted dichroic glass piece is designed, hand cut one at a time, and fired in a kiln at 1500 degrees. To complete the process, the fused pieces are cut to fit the sterling silver bezels and then fire-polished to 1300 degrees. No two pieces are exactly the same, and each one-of-a kind piece is signed by the artist.

Marianne Walch and the three artists of Pane in the Glass Studio will be on hand to show and discuss their work at the opening reception on May 31 from 7 to 10 PM. For more information, visit www.205lavinia.com, or call 302-684-3379. It is an event not to be missed!
