United Kingdom of Great Britain & N. Ireland (Press Release) May 12, 2008 --
Everyone is in some way or another touched by Madiba’s legacy. Prominent international figures such as: Mary Robinson (president of Ireland), The Rev Desmond Tutu (also credited for the term ‘Rainbow Nation’), Niall Fitzgerald (chairman of Reuters), Melanie Verwoerd (executive director of Unicef Ireland), Achmat Dango (CEO of the Nelson Mandela Foundation), FW de Klerk (Nobel Peace Prize winner) and singer Eddy Grant (noted for “Gimme Hope Jo'anna" banned by the apartheid government) have contributed essays to this edition. They describe how Mr Mandela and his legacy have personally influenced them. Prominent South African companies and directors participated in this collector’s edition with corporate and personal birthday messages.
SOUTH AFRICA magazine will also contribute 20% of all advertising income to the three legacy charities: the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund and the Mandela Rhodes Foundation. It will also promote Mr Mandela’s 46664 HIV/Aids awareness concert in Hyde Park, London on 27 June 2008, where a copy of the magazine will be presented to him.
Other features in this edition include the Pondoland and Wild Coast hiking trials, a feature on Qunu, cooking for Nelson Mandela by renowned South African chef, Pete Gottgens, the Paarl wine route, Nelson Mandela books and film reviews, apartheid and Mandela tourist attractions, 24 hours in Soweto, and a business profile on Soweto property magnate Richard Maponya.
SOUTH AFRICA magazine is bi-monthly and always features a neighbouring country. A Mozambique feature will be complemented by awesome photography, practical information, advertising, the best lodges, coastal resorts and adventures.
