United States of America (Press Release) May 12, 2008 --
Culver City, CA —May 12th, 2008— The old adage of “it’s not what you know, but who you know,” has just met its match in Hollywood. A new Web-based service called Your Insider (www.your-insider.com) has been developed by industry insider, Michael Ferris, to tackle every aspiring filmmaker’s challenge.
The premise behind Ferris’ service is simple: present a good script or short film and it will be submitted to his contacts at studios, agencies, and management companies. “I trust his taste, so when Michael gives me a script, I know it's something I have to read,” said Bard Dorros, a manager at Anonymous Content, an industry-leading production and management firm that produces innovative content in film, commercials, music video, television, and talent. “The fastest way for an unknown to get their work read by someone like me is through him.”
While script and film competitions promise their winners exposure to the industry, Your Insider offers anyone who displays genuine talent a chance to be discovered. “Michael changed my life!” exclaimed screenwriter Michael Martin. “Thanks to him, a mere two days after I graduated film school I had an optioned script and was ‘hip-pocketed’ by a very in-demand manager.”
In addition to providing possible exposure for their work, Your Insider gives filmmakers an extra incentive to submit: notes. Every script or film received undergoes an evaluation process that includes story notes on how it can be improved—a service offered at a premium price by entertainment industry consultants. “The most unrecognized side of Hollywood is that of the development world, where creative minds serve to discover, support and nurture screenwriters to make a good script great,” explained Ryan Engle, Kopelson Entertainment’s President of Production. “From the moment I started working with Michael, I knew he had exactly what it takes to turn 120 pages of paper into gold.”
Your Insider aims to help filmmakers break down the wall that exists between them and Hollywood. “I met Michael a few years ago when I was working for Arnold Kopelson,” said Michael Palmer who works for Krasnoff/Foster at Sony. “Michael was not only unusually bright and enterprising, but he also found us a writer and brought in a project that was sold to New Line Cinema.”
With the number of script and film competitions crossing the 1,000 mark, Your Insider’s combination of accessibility and assistance promises to help more filmmakers realize their dream jobs. “The depth of the notes I received enabled me to win a national screenwriting award, as well as become a finalist is many other competitions,” remarked screenwriter Tiffany McMichael. “Ironically, Michael ended up opening up more doors for me than any of those contests.”
