United States of America (Press Release) May 13, 2008 --
For Immediate Release:
Collaboration Sends Angelenos to Cannes Film Festival
A collaboration among independent film makers results in short subject film to be screened at the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes France.
Independent film makers pooled their talent to create a short piece for promotional purposes that was accepted at the Cannes Film Festival and will be shown during the eleven day event.
Juan Escobedo, Dave Kebo and Matt Sanford combined their skills to make a movie to promote the writing of Froylan Cabuto. The result was a four minute project entirely in Spanish based on the poem, "Soy Soldado" or I am a Soldier.
In four minutes the audience sees an Iraq war veteran struggle with the impact the war has on his psyche. It criticizes the powers-that-be for making him a killer and abandoning him once he is back home.
Sanford and Escobedo are traveling to Cannes in support of their work during the May 14 to May 25, 2008 festival. "Soy Soldado" will be available for everyone to see during that time. Sanford and Escobedo hope others will be inspired to create a feature length movie from this short.
Sanford and Escobedo, who played the part of the soldier, produced this visual poem after working on various other short projects.
This original media project was produced to promote the writing of Froylan Cabuto, Spanish Professor at Cerritos College, Norwalk California. The poem "Soy Soldado" is included in his book "Detras de la Cruz", Behind the Cross. Cabuto also participated in the production process and has worked on other projects with Escobedo and Sanford.
Dave Kebo put his considerable editing talent to the task of making this short film powerful and memorable.
Matt Sanford is a resident of Pasadena, CA
