Crafting for Charity on behalf on my Aunt Lily who died of breast cancer

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) May 13, 2008 -- This past Mother’s Day, several participated in the Chicago Avon Walk for Cancer contributing to the Susan B. Komen Fund.

Instead of walking, I’ve chosen to use my talents as a jewelry designer and will donate a percentage of sales from two (2) shows on May 17-18 to the Susan B. Komen Fund and from my Website and Etsy shop.

One show is the West Chicago BloomingFest on Sat., May 17 and the second is the Pinegree Grove Craft Show on Sun., May 18. You can read more about each at www.LinorStore.com/events.htm.

My Aunt Lily, on my dad’s side, was diagnosed with breast cancer (Stage 4) in 2003. We had a special psychic bond and when I would think of her, she would call me, and vice versa. Every year, when I was a kid, my family and I would visit her and my 4 cousins on the East coast. When we shopped together, the merchants thought I was another one of her daughters. And, after my mom died, she kept in touch with me more frequently and took me in as one of her own, when I needed a change of environment for a few weeks. It was great.

My cousins planned a special birthday party for her and invited me. Normally, I don’t travel over 1,200 miles for birthdays, but this was a special event and I was able to go. My cousins kept my visit a secret from my Aunt.

I was picked up at the airport and driven to the house by my cousin, Pete. He told me to stay behind him as he walked into my aunt’s living room. He said, “I have a surprise for you” and motioned me forward. A huge smile broke out on her face and I went forward for one great big hug. Of course, we were both crying tears of joy, because we’re emotional people.

We spent some time talking, watching TV and napping. I also accompanied her to a few doctor’s appointments and prayed a lot. She gave me a special gift: my grandfather’s prayer shawl and bag, which I treasure.

The party was a BBQ and we were able to spend time outside on a lovely day and celebrate her birthday. Pete took pictures and before we all left he printed a bunch and gave them to us.

I called Aunt Lily and sent cards and she did the same. Three months later, I received a call: she was gone. The cancer had spread and she couldn’t fight anymore. My cousins told me not to come out for the funeral because of the expense; that they all knew I’d be there in spirit. They sent me a speech my Uncle (Aunt Lily and my dad’s youngest brother) read about her.

Aunt Lily was a beautiful woman. Please help me remember her, and others who have succumbed or survived cancer by donating to the breast cancer fund through your purchases at www.LinorStore.com or www.lindab142.etsy.com.
