Egypt
Egypt makes many friends..... Not only is it the land of the pharaohs, temples, pyramids and the Nile, but it also has a fascinating underwater world and lovely beaches. A holiday country that offers many possibilities, whether you are a sun worshipper, culture enthusiast or you like delicious food: Egypt has it all. With 365 days of sunshine and the breathtaking culture, its no wonder that it is known as the oldest holiday country in the world.
The Red Sea
The tourist areas are primarily situated along the Red Sea. In Egypt, the diver feels like a fish in water! Few other countries are as impressive both above and under water. Forgotten fishing villages along the Red Sea have grown into effervescent diving areas. The warm water of the Red Sea is home to a great many rare types of fish. The virgin coral reefs in the Zafarana region rank among the newest diving and snorkeling sensations.
Seeing the sites
From Zafarana you can drive to the metropolis of Cairo in one and a half hours. At the world-famous Egyptian Museum, you can enjoy a multitude of treasures from the past. The Sun Ship and Tutankhamen’s mask are but a few examples of the many art objects that you truly must see. This also applies to the Sphinx and the famous Pyramids of Cheops, one of the Seven Wonders of the World, in Gizeh.
About one-half hour’s drive south of Zafarana, you can visit the monasteries/convents of St. Paul and St. Anthony, founded around 400 B.C.
Also from Zafarana there is a good road connection to the Nile. It is definitely worthwhile to take a cruise on an authentic Felucca and to visit the settlements along this impressive river.
We also highly recommend an excursion lasting several days to the city of Luxor, with the visit to the Temple of Karnak, the Valley of the Kings and the Temple of Hatjepsut. From here it is also possible to enjoy a lovely boat ride on the Nile.
