May 22—Sharada Gallery in Rhinebeck, New York is proud to present Robert Hills in a solo exhibit titled "A Visual Conversation". The gallery will host an artist reception on Saturday June 14, from 5 – 8pm in Rhinebeck.
The work of artist Robert Hills is about the creation of visual imagery, objectifying the thought process in the making of art. Robert employs an aesthetic language, uses four fundamental transformations of basic forms, which can be likened to searching for the grand unified theory in physics by looking at the interactions between the four basic forces. Hills uses the canvas as a medium to codify and reveal his process on his thinking about art, his work is about the rendering of his imagination on a two-dimensional surface. The show "A Visual Conversation" is work that can only be described as visual software, where thoughts "roll" across forms, allowing them to communicate, resonate, and interact with each other. It is a visual abstraction of the artist thinking about art.
The paintings interact with each other to form a dialog, much like the software of generative forms. The connections between the visual images are like that of conversations with varied nuances, inflections and poetry of an internal thought on and about art; the visual externalization of the internal discourse. The moment of creation is immediate and passionate, a sublime moment for artist Robert Hills.
Artist Robert Hills has shown in Juried Shows at the Provincetown Art Museum and at the Stamford Art Association. He has also shown at the Art Students League and in a group show the FXFowle Gallery in New York. In the August and September of 2008, he will have a solo show at the FXFowle Gallery in New York following his solo show at the Sharada Gallery.
When not working as an artist Hills designs building as an architect in New York City.
Robert Hills is currently working on two large-scale works one is a 120-inch by 120 large painting and preparing as 1111-foot long installation to be assembled on the coast of the tip of Cape Cod on 11. 11. 2008.
He is also in the process of producing several smaller works and conceptual pieces.
His past works include a 100-foot long "stream of consciousness" completed in 100 days and several conceptual pieces and installations including a robotic feedback piece.
