Las Vegas Dance Company to Hold Auditions on June 7

LAS VEGAS, MAY 26, 2008—Students at Dance Connection are more than just talented performers—they’re part of an organization that wants to develop them as contributing members of the community at large.
“At Dance Connection,” says the studio’s owner Cherilyn Beanan, “we offer a safe, fun place where children can grow and learn. We are giving our children the tools needed to go out into the world and make it better. Our children are not only learning about the art of dance, they are building self-confidence, self-esteem, self-expression, self-respect and a sense of accomplishment and motivation in a fun, hard-working environment.”
And that’s the philosophy that Beanan has as she looks for her next group of stars.
Auditions for the company, which is currently 200 strong, will be held June 7 at Dance Connection. In advance of auditions, students should stop by the studio to pick up a packet and speak with the studio’s highly trained staff to learn about the opportunity. The company currently has seven levels of instruction.
Dancers interested in Dance Connection should be ready to not only make a commitment to the studio and to their classmates, but most importantly to themselves. Classes are held three to five times each week, and there are a handful of competitions and community events where dancers will perform. In part due to the demanding schedule, Beanan wants to ensure dancers truly want to join the company, and as such, asks those who plan to audition to take a few minutes to reflect on why they’d like to join and in turn, prepare a paragraph outlining their motivation and submit it at the audition.
Once a part of the company, dancers can choose from a range of classes, including student favorite “Broadway,” which is a musical theater class that trains students to become “triple threats,” says Beanan, explaining the class works on students’ singing, acting and dancing skills. This year’s class will perform a 20-minute version of “The Music Man.”
And Beanan certainly knows how to train students to become triple threats—she herself has trained dancers who have gone on to Broadway and Hollywood. At Dance Connection, which is just five years old, she is always on the lookout for youngsters who can become professionals, and as such, has invited guest instructors such as professional dancers Blake McGrath and Ryan Conferido and Southern California-based hip hop troupe SickStep to share both their skills and their stories about achieving fame in the world of dance.
But regardless of what career goals her young dancers may achieve in life, Beanan says it’s most important that they become the best dancers—and the best people—they can be. “Each and every dancer is special at Dance Connection. Dance Connection dancers grow and mature into beautiful, professional dancers—and most importantly, better citizens.”
