PRESS RELEASE - HEATHROW TERMINALS IN APRIL
AIRPORT SUMMARY FOR THE MONTH OF APRIL
In its first full month of operation, Terminal 5 easily beat the one million passenger mark but was still massively below original target. The key month is next month when long-haul is scheduled for absorption.
Despite the negative publicity, and after no more than five weeks in operation, Terminal 5 is now Heathrow's most used terminal. Passengers for the month were almost 1.3 million or 24% of the airport total.
The expected effects on Terminals 1 and 3 are now very evident. On a year on year basis, passenger numbers at Terminal 1 are down by over 50%. Terminal 4 passengers are down by over a quarter. This is in a month when traffic overall was down by 3.8%, the CAA reports. Terminal 3 achieved a slight increase in the month; Terminal 2 was down by almost 10%.
Retailers and their suppliers are feeling the effects of the new travel flow patterns and the changed nationality mix of passengers.

HEATHROW TERMINAL 5 DESTINATIONS; APRIL
UK destinations in April accounted for just a fraction short of of 25% of all Terminal 5 passengers; the number of travellers was 240 thousand. Germany was ranked second with 13% of terminal traffic. The USA, with 9% and over 100 thousand passengers, was third.
Charles de Gaulle takes over as the most important airport destination but there are still, necessarily, three UK airports on the top table and Edinburgh is only slightly less important than CDG.
