The Western New York Psychiatric Society (WNYPS) of the American Psychiatric Association (APA), a New York district branch of all national psychiatrists, has elected Balvinder S. Kang, M.D. as their new President to serve a one year term through May of 2009. Dr. Kang also acts as the Medical Director at BryLin Hospitals in Buffalo and works in private practice in West Seneca.
“It is an honor and a privilege to be elected by my peers and represent the district branch of the Western New York Psychiatric Society”, states Dr. Kang. “One of the most important issues facing us today is Mental Health Parity. We have been asking all of our members to join together in urging Congressional Representatives to support the Mental Health Parity Bill”. According to Dr. Kang, this is the most comprehensive bill for parity ever introduced into legislation that mandates full parity for all insurance carriers and HMOs which includes coverage for both mental health and substance abuse.
Dr. Kang has been a member of the Western New York Psychiatric Society of the American Psychiatric Association since 1977. He has held positions as Program Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, and, most recently, President Elect in 2007. Dr Kang has been employee at BryLin Hospitals since 1993 and has served as the Medical Director since February, 2000.
BryLin Hospitals is Upstate New York’s only private provider of psychiatric and substance abuse care.
