United States of America (Press Release) June 4, 2008 --
BAYONNE OSTOMY ALLIANCE
If you or someone you know is suffering from colon cancer, there is a local
resource that can provide free assistance, guidance and support.
It is the Bayonne Ostomy Alliance (BOA), a not-for-profit association
established to provide mutual aid and rehabilitation to persons who have
undergone bowel or bladder ostomy or related surgeries (colostomy,
ileostomy, urostomy, Kock pouch, etc.).
Membership is open to all interested persons, including those who have
undergone one or more surgeries, their relatives and friends, medical
professionals, and representatives of companies which manufacture or market
ostomy supplies and prosthetic devices.
Our meetings usually have an informative presentation of interest to ostomy
patients, and breakout sessions, at which patients with similar surgeries
may discuss rehabilitation techniques with other patients.
To help people prepare for what will happen during and after an ostomy or
related surgery, we can arrange for someone who has been through the
process to visit with the person who is contemplating, or who has had an
ostomy or related surgery. Visitors to prospective or new ostomy patients
(who need not be members) are matched as closely as possible for surgery
type.
BOA meetings are held the second (2nd) Wednesday of each month, 2 PM,
in the Cardiology Conference Room (Located on the first floor) at the
Bayonne Medical Center. (29th Street at Avenue E).
BOA is affiliated with United Ostomy Associations of America, organized in
September of 2005, succeeding the former UOA, Inc.
