United States of America (Press Release) June 6, 2008 --
WASHINGTON, DC – Elizabeth Kpabitey, an accountant in the Washington DC Metro area, organized a Girls Scout World Neighbors Badge Event at Peoples Congregational Church, 4704 13th Street NW, Washington DC, on Friday March 30th, 2008. The event benefited the Girl Scout Junior Troop #4461, ages 9 through 12 years. Nationals from Japan, Sierra Leone and Ghana wore their traditional clothing and shared highlights of their country’s history, traditions, greetings and some games with the girls. Every body had a lot of fun. Participants in the event were the girls’ parents, Troop Leader Tonda Bean, and country presenters: Emeko Rhodes from Japan, Aisha King from Sierra Leone and Elizabeth Kpabitey from Ghana.
Kpabitey created the project while participating in a Landmark Education leadership program. Part of the coursework was to create a project that benefits the community. Landmark Education is an international training and development company which is known for offering its flagship course, The Landmark Forum (www.landmarkeducation.com).
"First hand knowledge about other countries and lots of interaction with foreigners by children will enhance understanding of different cultures and promote world peace in the future", Kpabitey said. "When I had the opportunity to create a project that would make a difference in the community, my thoughts moved towards world peace.”
The event was sponsored by The Girl Scout Association of the National Capital Area. For more information, contact Elizabeth Kpabitey at (301) 292-4304.
