Great West Life exposed as a cruel, heartless, fraudulent company.
A long-term disability client denied a fully justified claim by The Great West Life Assurance Company has launched a campaign to expose business practices, which could be considered fraudulent as well as cruel, unjustified and malicious.
The client, a highly educated individual with an extensive background in the medical field submitted a claim in early March, providing all necessary documentation, and answered every question posed to him with complete honesty. One day before he was to receive his first disability payment he was contacted by Great West Life and advised “GWL would not be able to pay out on this claim.” The client questioned the grounds for this denial and took careful and complete notes of the telephone conversation. The grounds on which he was denied were bizarre and fully unjustified. Including:
-Being improperly diagnosed
-Receiving the wrong type of treatment
In his response to Great West Life the client provided clinical evidence that had he been subjected to the course of treatment GWL based its denial on, he would be dead.
He further provided documentary evidence that every stage of his treatment was in complete accordance with the clinical practice guidelines of his condition. That he had in fact been diagnosed properly, using the proper diagnostic method, and treated in the correct setting, in complete accordance with the “gold standard” for his condition. In his letter to Great West Life the client demanded an apology, reversal of the decision, and that the medical consultant to Great West Life be referred to the College of Physicians and Surgeons for disciplinary action for demonstrating a complete lack proper medical judgment.
In its response Great West Life issued the requested apology, indicated the clients case would be placed under review and issued a cheque for sixteen hundred dollars, representing two weeks of benefits already owed. From that point onward, Great West Life did exactly nothing. A full two months elapsed with no further contact or payment from Great West Life. Tapped out and facing mounting bills the client with the support of his employer applied extensive pressure to Great West Life and received a further payment representing seven weeks of benefits. Great West Life indicated the payment was made on an “administrative” basis only and that the client’s claim was still under review.
Meantime the client began researching the business practices of Great West Life and learned his case was far from unique, that in fact Great West Life displayed a wanton disregard for its clients and had a string of lawsuits filed against it by individuals in the same situation. Each case had been fully litigated and lost by Great West Life. The most prominent case involved a women left quadriplegic following a traffic accident who was dragged through the legal system and eventually to the US Supreme Court where Great West Life lost, and was assessed costs.
Given this reckless disregard for its contractual obligations and total lack of human decency, the GWL client has now taken it upon himself to hold the insurance carrier accountable for its actions. The individual who has not yet revealed his identity has an impeccable international reputation, is held in high esteem in both medical and legal circles, and is looked upon as someone with unimpeachable integrity and honesty. He has won multiple international honours for his work, and is currently writing a book based on his experiences in the health system. He was recently cleared to return to his employment, and calculates had it lived up to its contractual obligation his claim would have cost Great West Life approximately thirteen thousand dollars.
He is prepared to speak with any individual and provide a complete background on who he is on the condition that information not be released publically due to the high profile nature of his job.
