United States of America (Press Release) June 14, 2008 --
The event will kick off with a live performance by SL Musican Nance Brody at 7pm and wind up with a performance by Da Bluez Preacher, Srv4u Conache at 8pm. Attendees will receive a Coming of Age T-shirt and a Second Life version of the first chapter of the book, and have a chance to win their own copy of the book in Real Life.
In August 2007, Cetus Gallery District hosted the Second Life Photo Competition for the book cover, including showing the finalists and having open voting for the favorites, culminating in a District-wide celebration for the winner, Aino Korhonen. With the release of the finished book, Cetus Owner/Creator, Xander Ruttan, and Cetus Gallery District Association President, Tricia Aferdita are pleased to host the launch party.
Based on over two years of research conducted in Second Life by Tom Boellstorff’s avatar Tom Bukowski, COMING OF AGE IN SECOND LIFE: An Anthropologist Explores the Virtually Human (Cloth $29.95, ISBN: 978-0-691-13528-1, pub date: June 18, 2008) is an authoritative examination of how the residents of Second Life create communities, buy property and build homes, go to concerts, meet in bars, attend weddings and religious services, buy and sell virtual goods and services, find friendship, fall in love—in essence how Second Life residents live online.
