Forget the Sharpie! College student hopes to ‘sign’ cast with more than just signatures.
Ohio Dominican University Senior, Dustin Crew, recently broke his arm in an auto accident. He came up with the idea to sell his cast as ad-space on the popular ebay website.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 17, 2008 --
Dustin Crew is a senior Business Administration major at Ohio Dominican University. Last week he was saying it just wasn't his week, after being sick on Monday and then having a flat tire on Tuesday. "I just kept thinking to myself, it's Friday, what else can go wrong?"
Well, the worst was yet to come. Shortly before 6:00pm on the evening of Friday, June 13, 2008, Dustin and friend Sean Archual were headed southbound on Wilson Road in Columbus, Ohio. Shortly into their trip to McFadden's Restaurant and Saloon on High St. Sean's 1997 Toyota Corolla collided with another car head-on after Archual swerved left to avoid a truck turning left in front of their car and proceeded westbound on Trabue Road. The truck did not stop at the scene.
Crew vividly recalls the accident, attributing his survival to the airbag, "We were going around 30-35mph when we smashed into her car. I remember seeing the yellow light and Sean swerving to miss the truck and then thinking to myself, 'we’re gonna hit that lady!' The airbags deployed and the smell was horrible. I tried getting out of the car as soon as I could and ran to the side of the road; not even noticing that my wrist was broken, I just knew that I couldn’t move it.”
It wasn’t until after police arrived on the scene and recorded everything that Crew realized he may need to get his wrist checked-out. “There wasn’t any pain really, it was just numb and swollen; I couldn’t really move my hand or fingers.” Crew was taken to Mt. Carmel West Hospital and treated for the injury after x-rays showed a broken radius bone in his left arm. He is awaiting a follow-up appointment on Friday to most-likely have his arm set in a cast.
So what does this mean to everyone else? Well simple, Crew is selling his cast as ad space on ebay in order to pay off some past bills and help to off-set some of the initial costs of the accident. There will be up to 4 ad spaces on the cast and the highest bidders will receive preference. The auction is scheduled to end late Friday. In addition to the cast space, Crew is offering-up space on the bumper of his car for added visibility. “I work around Downtown Columbus, a lot people will see my car and your ad” says Crew. He mentions on the listing that he is also open to other advertising ideas that your company might have.

The listing is also featured on TheAuctionRater.Com which features unique auction listings each week. Crew’s wrist space is currently listed at #5: http://theauctionrater.com
The driver of the other vehicle was transported to Mt. Carmel West Hospital for bruises and past injuries and was released Friday evening. Reports are that she is doing much better since the initial shock of the accident.
