Emerging Drinking Water Issues in Minnesota
Emerging contaminants in drinking water in Minnesota continue to draw attention
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Free-Press-Release.com) June 26, 2008 --
The federal Safe Drinking Water Act establishes maximum contaminant levels for more than 100 contaminants. However, new contaminants continue to emerge, and the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency maintains an active program called the Contaminant Candidate List to identify contaminants that may warrant detailed study.
Though the state actively tries to fight against the contaminants, new contaminants are on the rise. Recent reports suggest presence of lead, arsenic, copper, mercury and even some pharmaceutical agents in drinking water. These contaminants if consumed in small amounts over a period of time, can lead to chronic disease and even poisoning in some cases e.g. Lead and Arsenic Poisoning.
Although the Government is taking steps to reduce these contaminants it urges the residents to take preventive measures like boiling the water and installing an effective water treatment/filter system.
