Tribo de Jah is a noticeable Brazilian band composed of six blind musicians. It was formed at the beginning of the nineties in the Escuela de Ciegos de Maranhao, where five friends who lived there started to share their pleasure for music, improvising with different instruments. Eventually, they started playing in different locations (mainly reggae and lambada covers). At that time, reggae culture was having a boom in Brazil, mainly in the Maranhao area, and hundreds of reggae clubs proliferated all over the country. Therefore, Tribo de Jah could finally get connected to the spirit of reggae culture, along with its political and peace messages. Independently, the band appeared on that circuit and made its work known, until finally being able to have their work out there on a national level. Ten years later, due to the Reggae Sunsplash Festival of Jamaica in 1995, they entered the popularly known category of World Music, launching the group's fame internationally. After that concert, Tribo de Jah began a long tour through Brazil, Argentina, France and Italy, getting the deserved recognition of the critics and audience for their long and solid career.
