New Zealand (Press Release) July 4, 2008 --
We're giving away $20,000 in prizes! The oldest and most prestigious piano competition in NZ has received a record number of applicants for Competition 2008.
Held every two years, the competition offers aspiring concert pianists a chance to showcase and test their performance skills over three days of extremely rigorous live performances.
'It is by far the best test for young pianists in the solo repertoire in this country” - Michael Houstoun, Patron and Internationally Acclaimed Concert Pianist.
This marks the first year that entries have been accepted internationally, and now Competition 2008 will showcase the talents of 18 pianists from five countries. One of Australia's most distinguished and awarded musicians, pianist Ian Munro, is looking forward to adjudicating the event. His recital will open the three day event, which features six preliminary rounds, a masterclass and the Final.
Past winners and runners-up include such well-known names as John Chen, Henry Wong Doe, Emma Sayers, Stephen de Pledge and Dan Poynton.
