Victoria BC Authors Win Second Gold IPPY Fiction Award

Robert Whittle, broke his previous historical novel mold saying he wanted to have some fun with his writing. It seems that by producing a mortal angel managed by ghostly spirits in a local cemetery and the riotous situations they provide, he has done just that, and his readers love it!

This is the first single novel for Whittle, a popular Canadian author, now sharing the authorship with his wife, Joyce Sandilands--a natural progression due to her previous influence as his copy editor.

Together with Whitlands Publishing, their publisher since 1998, they were honoured recently by receiving their second Gold Medal Award in the Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPYs) Regional Category: Canada West. This award duplicates their win from 2007 for "Loyalty's Haven," Book Three in Whittle's "Victoria Chronicles" Trilogy.

Sprinkled with history, "Whispers Across Time" is the story of Oliver Ryan, a Seattle court reporter who walks into a cemetery one stormy night in 1916 and comes face to face with a ghost apparition. This spirit becomes his Guardian Angel and helps him discover some new and exciting powers. What follows is a delightful romp through several time periods showing real historical settings of the Pacific Northwest (Victoria BC, Seattle and Everett) utilizing time travel, intriguing characters (including many ghosts).

Since 1998, Sandilands has had an uncanny knack at envisioning which of Whittle's novels will be popular with readers and this book is no exception. The interesting part is that Whittle turned his new and unusual subject matter (for Whittle at least, who had never read or seen a movie about time travel) into a highly enjoyable and upbeat ghost story about a time-travelling mortal angel (Ryan), a woman from modern times, and the problems their multigenerational romance encounters.
