Richard Thibodeau will exhibit selected works August 9, 2008

Richard B. Thibodeau was born in 1957 in Van Buren, Maine, but grew up in Bristol, CT. He moved to Northern Virginia in 1979.

From a very young age Richard had the desire to be an artist, beginning with the love of coloring books. As a young man in his teens he enjoyed working with wood, decoupage, watercolor, oils, and even excelled in making pottery.

As he got older, his art skills expanded to magnificent costume and mask making. Most of his very unique costumes have won sizeable awards including cruise trips to Finland and the Caribbean. His Focus is on the ability to invent and manifest the craft of costume-making and the potential for transformation that wearing such garments allows. Richard’s costumes are a visual pleasure of detail and comical touches.

Richard’s art is as endless as is his love of experimentation with different types of media. One of his talents also includes painting on glass. The delicate work is created by applying enamel paint to the reverse side of the glass copying a photograph on the front. His glass pieces have an Erte style but if you look closely you might recognize him in the photograph wearing his latest costume.

Over the years Richard has won many awards and has been juried in several shows in Northern Virginia including the Vienna Art Society, the Fairfax Art League and most recently a year-long private showing at the Cosmos Club at the Bridges Gallery. The Cosmos Club is distinguished private club in Washington, DC.

Richard’s talent is as energetic as his charming personality. His desire is to share his art with his audience and make them happy with his remarkable images and wide array of mediums.
