E-filing, introduced by the Government of India in 2006, has been finding a significant number of takers among the Indian masses. According to the latest statistics, online tax return filings in 2005-06 were 3.7 lakh, and the number shot up to 21.93 lakhs in 2006-07, an increase of almost 500%.
