Local Pilates Studio Can Make You Look Like Miss America

West Bloomfield, MI, July 22, 2008 —Teaser Pilates recently celebrated its first anniversary of being in business, and just hired additional instructors to accommodate an expanded client base. “Being featured in a national magazine has been a great anniversary gift” says Teaser Pilates owner Cheryl Finch. Recent Miss America pageant winner Kirsten Haglund trained exclusively with Finch as a novice pilates student for only six weeks before winning her crown. Haglund is on the August cover of national pilates enthusiast magazine “Pilates Style”. Haglund credits pilates for her “crowning achievement” and still trains with Finch when she is in town.
Pilates was first developed by Joseph Pilates to combat his asthma and rickets, the exercise system has attracted legions of devotees from all ages young and old. Over 10 million people practice Pilates in the United States -- including celebrities such as Madonna, Oprah, and Tiger Woods who believes pilates improves his golf game. Dancers and athletes also incorporate pilates into their training regimen including the University of Michigan football team.

The surge of popularity and interest in pilates is being fueled by baby boomers who want to increase flexibility and motion in the joints regardless of age or injury. Other benefits include increased flexibility, mobility, balance, and body awareness, as will as a decrease in back pain and other general pains.
