2008 Texas Composers Competiton Winner

Dr. Stephen Lias, Area Coordinator for Music Theory and Composition at Stephen F. Austin State University and the Founder and Director of The Center for the Promotion of Contemporary Composers (CPCC) has announced Daniel J Hay as the winner in the 2008 Texas Composers Competition's Professional Category. The honored piece, Susan's Concerto for English Horn, Bassoon, and Violin will be considered for inclusion on the 2009 World Music Days program by the International Society of Contemporary Music. Mr. Hay's concerto will also be considered for performance during the 2009 conference of the Texas chapter of the National Association of Composers.

Daniel J Hay, age 51, is the composer of The Hermit for Oboe and Strings that was recently recovered and completed. [see Free Press Release at http://www.free-press-release.com/news/200805/1212173090.html] This was the first composers competition Daniel entered.

Mr. Hay is accepting commissions for new work. He has written music such as Boyanna i Alma, Ode to Oprah, and Ode to Harry Potter for Recorder and other solo instruments. He enjoys writing for Oboe, Bassoon, French Horn, and Cello. He also writes for chamber groups and performs on Recorders crafted by Bodil Diesen (www.bodildiesen.no) of Norway. Daniel is a fine tenor, an experienced conductor, and as a disabled veteran makes a living as a photographer.
