Years ago with film cameras not many rookie photographers would dare take the risk of shooting a wedding on film. Now with the high tech digital cameras you can get a half decent looking shot shooting in automatic mode that may pass a a pro-shot! Well lets see about that ? Is it really a good shot when the couple is centered and the white wedding dress is blown out ? Not really! Most digital or should I say all will try to turn every exposure 18% gray when shooting in automatic mode and makes for grey skies and blown out whites. A true professional wedding photographer knows his camara inside and out and will shoot either manual mode, apeture or shutter priority. This way he or she is control of the exposure of the scene. There are many other things that come into play when doing professional photography like composition, creativity and just all around knowledge of the business. Most photographers that take on their first wedding are pretty seasoned as second shooters and as assistants and are ready for the challenge. It's a frightful moment when you are to capture a brides most precious moment of walking down the isle with her dad and you are not sure if you have the correct settings shutter, speed, flash, ISO etc! So many things can go wrong and then the nightmare begins. It's a big day and needs someone who knows what they are doing and has shot a bunch of weddings and has plenty of back up equipment. Do not think because you took great shots at the Grand Canyon and everyone who seen them said you should be doing photography professionaly that you are ready to shoot someones most special day, her wedding day! Think about it, these shots will be looked at for years and need to be great memories not nightmare memories of how they should have shopped around for a real professional wedding photographer.
