http://rallyfoundation.org/rallyathlete.html The Rally Athletes program now has two new training teams that will participate in the WALT DISNEY WORLD Half Marathon, WALT DISNEY WORLD Full Marathon, and Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge at WALT DISNEY WORLD Resort near Orlando, Fla. on January 9-11, 2009, and the ING Georgia Marathon and Half Marathon in Atlanta, Ga. on March 29, 2009.
Informational meetings are being held throughout the Atlanta area to recruit beginner, intermediate and advanced athletes to run, walk and act as support volunteers for the Rally Athletes training team.
Rally Athletes receive expert coaching from an experienced, certified running coach that gives each participant a training schedule based on their pace and ability level. Rally’s award-winning coach, Marlene Atwood, offers participants support and advice on form, techniques, equipment, injury prevention and nutrition.
“I was going from zero to 13 miles with no experience whatsoever,” Rally Athlete Shelly Hill said. “The Rally Running Coach was a huge help in my training.”
Each Rally Athlete chooses a Rally Kid, a child that is fighting or has fought cancer, to run or walk in honor, or in memory of. Atwood also offers group runs for Rally Athletes, which give the participants the opportunity to make friends for encouragement and accountability when training for the race. A fundraising coach also helps Rally Athletes with ideas for successful fundraising.
Anyone who is participating in an athletic event like a 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon, ironman, triathlon, bike ride or walk can be a Rally Athlete and raise money for childhood cancer research.
